AVP/VP Insurance Finance

A leading investment firm is seeking an Assistant Vice President or Vice President of Insurance Finance to support its Insurance Asset Management (IAM) business. This individual will play a key role in overseeing accounting and finance operations for IAM’s investment partnership and separately managed accounts. Strong communication skills are essential, as the role requires interaction with senior leaders, insurance clients, and third-party service providers. The position also involves producing monthly investment reports, requiring collaboration across finance teams and business units. The ideal candidate will have experience in asset management or insurance finance, strong time management skills, a proactive problem-solving approach, and a desire to learn.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare attribution reporting and calculate performance metrics, working closely with portfolio management to analyze discrepancies.

  • Collaborate with senior business development and client service leaders to produce investment reports.

  • Conduct portfolio analytics, analyzing balance sheet and income statement accounts and providing variance commentary.

  • Calculate and prepare quarterly management fees for investment partnerships and separately managed accounts.

  • Manage the capital call process for separately managed accounts, overseeing funding and loan settlements.

  • Review monthly trust payment reports and waterfall payment structures.

  • Oversee the timely and accurate delivery of trade files, loan tapes, and key financial data to clients, ensuring quality control and process automation.

  • Work with third-party service providers to ensure accuracy and completeness of accounting ledgers.

  • Oversee cash and position reconciliations, resolving discrepancies with administrators and loan operations teams.

  • Supervise the preparation of accounting packages to support monthly trust and fund NAV reviews.

  • Oversee the processing of invoices related to the IAM platform and ensure proper recording of investment expenses.

  • Review net income allocations, capital calls, and distributions for the investment partnership.

  • Assist in the onboarding of new accounts, working with internal teams and service providers on accounting and operational setup.

  • Contribute to special projects and financial presentations as needed.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Strong work ethic with an analytical and problem-solving mindset.

  • Ability to think strategically, identify process improvements, and drive operational efficiencies.

  • Comfortable working with large datasets, with experience analyzing and reconciling financial data.

  • Advanced Excel proficiency required; experience with SQL, Alteryx, Tableau, and PowerPoint strongly preferred.

  • High attention to detail to ensure the accuracy of accounting ledgers, reports, and financial data.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact with senior management and cross-functional teams.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and adapt to a fast-paced, evolving environment.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.

  • 7-10 years of experience in public accounting and/or private sector roles within asset management or the insurance industry preferred.

  • Experience with GAAP and statutory reporting for insurance companies is a plus.
