Vice President Investment Operations

A leading investment firm is seeking an MBS Operations Professional to support its Residential and Commercial Mortgage-Backed Securities trading desks. This role is part of the broader Investment Operations team and is responsible for managing the full trade lifecycle across various complex financial products. The position requires close collaboration with trading desks, financing counterparties, fund administrators, and internal infrastructure teams to ensure seamless execution of transactions, securitizations, financing arrangements, and portfolio hedging.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the entire lifecycle of products traded by the MBS desks, including MBS, mortgage whole loans (RPLs and NPLs), CDOs, U.S. Treasuries, equities, repo financing, bespoke facilities, and derivatives (Interest Rate Swaps, Futures, Credit Default Swaps, Swaptions, FX Forwards, etc.).

  • Enter trades into order management and accounting systems.

  • Manage and reconcile position maintenance events such as paydowns, remittance, corporate actions, coupon rate updates, swap resets, and CMBX rolls.

  • Ensure proper settlement of all trading activity with external counterparties.

  • Maintain accounting entries related to fund restructuring and SPV investments.

  • Work closely with trading desks and internal teams on structuring and closing complex deals, including mortgage securitizations, re-securitizations, CDOs, and other financing facilities.

  • Produce and reconcile Flow of Funds schedules for new deals.

  • Coordinate with tax teams and external legal counsel on structuring transactions.

  • Liaise with financing counterparties to facilitate financing transitions.

  • Work with fund administrators, prime brokers, and counterparties to perform reconciliations, including:

    • Month-end position and P&L reconciliations with fund administrators.

    • Daily trade reconciliations with prime brokers.

    • Derivative roll reconciliations with OTC counterparties.

    • Reconciliation of all book and street cash activity in the firm's cash management system.

  • Collaborate with Investment Operations and Business Optimization teams on process automation and efficiency improvements.

  • Document non-standard trades, errors, and participations per the firm's allocation policies.

  • Assist trading desks with ad-hoc requests, including P&L analysis and liquidity analysis.

  • Maintain financial and meta-data in the Data Warehouse Management system and develop reports using this information.

  • Monitor and enhance daily, weekly, and monthly checks to manage operational risk.

Key Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.

  • 8+ years of experience in investment operations, preferably in a middle or back-office role.

  • Strong knowledge of financial products, including MBS, derivatives, and structured finance.

  • Advanced Excel skills and comfort working with large data sets.

  • Technical skills such as Python, VBA, SQL, and familiarity with tools like Visual Portfolio Manager and Bloomberg Terminal are a plus.

  • Understanding of accounting principles and experience working with SPV structures or fund-to-fund investments.
